“Fans of poetry, overstimulated by the bleak realities of contemporary life found all too often in today’s work, will devour this book as its sweet songs offer solace and an optimistic outlook on a life that’s still worth living.”
“Jack Dell is a sincere and self-aware seeker of wisdom whose present goal is to look back with kindness on himself and others and who is eager to share what he’s learned. “Coming Home” is an enjoyable distillation of one man’s philosophy expressed in simple verse and visual art.”
“Dell’s folksy and inviting collection of poems, songs, visual art, and essays presents a jovial array of grandfatherly advice from the perspective of a septuagenarian who has much to report about living a life of joy. ”
Coming Home brings together twenty-five poems written across more than five decades, paired with Jack Dell’s original pastels, sketches, and drawings.

Jack Dell is not your typical author. He’s an American businessman and a lifelong adventurer — and this book of poems and paintings has been fifty years in the making.
Since he was a child in post-World War II upstate New York, Jack has been searching for his own sense of being and the meaning of life, with all of its twists and turns, drawing on thinkers from Teilhard de Chardin to Carl Jung, Kahlil Gibran, and Carlos Castaneda. He has spent hundreds of days out on the ocean and in the woods of the Eastern Shore, the forests of northern New Mexico, and the rolling hills of Missouri. The silence and serenity of being out on the water and in the woods alone gave him a place to think about everything that matters.
This collection covers that ground: the oneness of spirit and nature, the importance of family, the costs of ambition, the mysteries of life, and the power of prayer. It will move you from laughing out loud to nodding in somber agreement to shaking your head in awe. The poems are paired throughout with Jack's own original pastels, chalk drawings, and sketches—some of them nearly fifty years old.
